In the past two games, the Blues were shutout both times as their horrible offensive woes continue. Blues fans are seeing a lot of this:

And FAR too less of this:

The point is, the Blues are not scoring at all. They have dropped the past two games - 2-0 to the Coyotes and 4-0 to the Panthers – without putting up much of a fight. Neither the ‘Yotes or Panthers are very good, so the Blues have no excuses. They have just been awful – especially at home. The Blues are 1-5 at Scottrade Center this year and have been outscored 17-7 at home and 33-29 overall. Blues fans have been extremely loyal and supportive, but the team isn’t giving them much to cheer about.
The offense was supposed to be the strong point of the team, but they have actually been the biggest weakness so far. Brad Boyes, David Backes, Patrik Berglund, David Perron and T.J. Oshie really haven’t done anything on offense, and that’s unacceptable. The Blues’ leading goal-scorer (Andy McDonald) has a whopping four goals through 12 games. The league leader in the NHL (Alex Ovechkin) has 14. That just sums up how lackluster the offense has been. They have GOT to step it up or the Blues won’t go anywhere. Getting shutout like this – especially to who I consider below average teams – is frustrating, and the Blues have to put a stop to it. We know the Blues CAN put the puck in the net, so why are they struggling so bad?
I don’t know what is going on with this team. They played so well down the stretch last year, and everybody was scoring. Brad Boyes has been a consistent 30-40 goal guy since coming to the Blues. Backes netted 25+ last season. But this year, they have apparently forgotten how to score because the puck is going everywhere except for in the net.
The Blues have been disappointing so far, and it has been going on for the past couple weeks. They now sit at 5-6-1 (11 points) which is 13th in the Western Conference. Not good at all. And they have two very tough games coming up against powerhouse teams - Calgary on Thursday and Philadelphia on Saturday. If they don’t step it up, the losses will continue to pile up and they will dig themselves into a deep hole just like they did at the start of the 2008 season.
The “star” players like Boyes and Backes have to be called out. They are not performing at all, and if they don’t pick it up, the Blues will be in trouble.
