Old Fashioned Passion – Blues vs. Calgary preview

by Blues News

Blues veterans Keith Tkachuk and Barret Jackman have finally discovered what’s missing from their lineup: passion. It’s about damn time. I’m a fan of the humble hockey player; that’s what makes the game so classy. But every once in a while, players need to show some fire! (*Ahem Brad Boyes, Patrik Berglund)

No one can say that the Blues don’t compete. This squad is well-respected league-wide for being a gritty, driven team. Lately, the young Blues simply don’t have that extra push that usually results in goals.

Tkachuk and Jackman are doing their part to inspire younger players by taking on extra laps at practice. They’re doing “Whatever It Takes,” the Blues advertising campaign describing a team that took the Western Conference by storm last season.

The Blues will need to echo that  second-half effort if they want to avoid another embarrassing home loss. Thankfully, St. Louis is honoring recent Hall of Fame inductee Brett Hull tomorrow night with a pre-game ceremony, which should hopefully put the pep back in their step.

The Blues are hosting the Flames tomorrow night, who are 5th in the Western Conference. The Blues will be paying close attention to Iginla and Phaneuf, two regular Blues-killers.

All the pieces are set for a great matchup between these two teams; it’s just a question of who will step up for the Blues and score. Who will make sure that Blues put the advantage back on their own ice?

T3 – nothing happens if the Blues lose tonight. It simply means that our town will continue playing the waiting game. We’ll continue waiting for a team that can deliver when the pressure is on. We’ll continue waiting for a player who can score consistently on a night to night basis.

I totally agree that Murray has a great place here with the Blues. His instincts are great, all the players seem to respect him, and, like you said, his demanding coaching style helps squeeze all the productivity out of guys like Crombeen, Winchester, and McClement. We most certainly NEED him.

And regarding your thoughts on Brewer: THANK YOU! It’s about time someone called that coward out. He has terrible, embarrassing defensive lapses (like that one he put into our own net not too long ago), he never takes the body, and he’s a terrible leader. He simply doesn’t deserve to be the captain. He’s been showing us for 5 years that the Pronger trade benefitted only Edmonton. We paid a huge price for him, and he has yet to pay dividends. And on top of that, he’s been injured more often than not, missing 109 games over the past 4 seasons! It’s time we got rid of him, we can both certainly agree on that.

Dear Sir, what happens if we lose? Will JD, Checketts, Pleau, Armstrong and MacInnis just say a little prayer to baby Jesus that it will turn around? Shake up time baby.

Murray is fine, he's getting the most out of Kariya, Perron, Oshie, McClement, Crombeen, etc. that he can. You can't pin the awfulness of Brewer on Murray, nor the scoring drought of McDonald. He's maximized the effectiveness of Boyes and Backes, revived the careers of Steen and Coliacovo. I like Murray and I think we need him.

Trade Brewer. He sucks. Terrible choice for captain. Make somebody captain that actually gives a shit. Like McClement or Backes (although David doesn't exactly deserve it right now). Our hardest workers right now are Kariya and Perron, why aren't they in a leadership role? Answer me that, sir.

I want to see Oshie drill the hell out of Iginla tonight.
