The St. Louis Blues and head coach Davis Payne announced today which players will serve as the captain and assistants for the upcoming season. I’m sure most of you will agree with me in expressing disappointment that Eric Brewer will once again captain the Note for the 2010-2011 season. It has been my experience in talks with other Blues fans that most people agree that Brewer is not the best choice for the C, but apparently the team feels different. For what it’s worth, Payne said that Brewer is one of the most respected players in the locker-room and that the team wants him to be the captain. I guess it’s not that big of a deal, but I’m just very anti-Brewer.
The assistants to Brewer will apparently alternate depending on whether the team is at home or on the road. Barrett Jackman and David Backes will resume their roles, with Alex Steen and Erik Johnson joining them. The team hasn’t said who will serve at home or on the road, but it will be some combination of those four players. I don’t have any squabbles with those choices, although I would much rather see Backes as the captain. I’m happy to see Johnson finally getting more responsibility, because he is probably the most important player on this team.
