Opening day is less than a week away, and the Blues’ roster is starting to come into focus. The team sent five players back to Peoria today, including TJ Hensick, Ryan Reaves, David Spina, Dean Arsene, and Nathan Oystrick. None of these moves are overly shocking, although I would have liked to see Hensick play well enough to make the squad. The most interesting thing to me is that with Arsene and Oystrick down, that means Alex Pietrangelo and Ian Cole are both still in camp with the big club. Nikita Nikitin is expected to be out for 4 weeks with a broken wrist, making the race on the blue line even more interesting. I’m a big fan of both Cole and Pietrangelo, but I have a feeling that Tyson Strachan will be on the team with those two battling for the final spot.
In other roster news, the team placed Dave Scatchard and Chris Porter on waivers. Nicholas Drazenovic is still on the squad at this point, so he is a name to keep an eye on this week.
On the injury front, both Andy McDonald and Erik Johnson suffered minor injuries, but both are expected to be fine. Matt D’Agostini suffered a foot injury, but X-rays came back negative and he is being considered day-to-day. D-man Carlo Colaiacovo is dealing with a hip flexor, but he is feeling better and is hopeful he can go Saturday against the Flyers. If Colaiacovo can’t go, then expect Pietrangelo, Cole, and Strachan to all suit up against the Flyers.
