We’re Number 1!

Interesting title, huh? First of all, let me apologize for not posting a game recap on Saturday night. It was the night before Halloween, and I wasn’t in any kind of shape to write anything when I got home that night. For anyone who missed it, the Blues came back from a 3-1 deficit to take the win in a shootout over the Thrashers. Jay McClement posted a hat trick to get us to overtime, and TJ Oshie put on a show with a highlight reel goal in the shootout to lead to the win. This team just keeps impressing, and going back to the title, the rest of the hockey world is taking note.

The St. Louis Blues are currently number one in ESPN’s NHL power rankings. Here is the quote describing the Blues from ESPN: “The Blues are allowing the fewest shots in the NHL. When mistakes are made, red-hot goalie Jaroslav Halak is there. Nice test this week with games against San Jose and Boston.” I completely agree that this is a big week for the team, and we might learn how good the Blues really are after those games.

I know the Power Rankings don’t really mean anything, but I have to admit that I’m a sucker for these kinds of things. Being a Blues fan, it seem very rare that our team ever gets recognized by the national media. If you aren’t from a huge market or Canada, it’s like you don’t exist. We know how well this team has been playing, and now maybe the rest of the world will take notice. Now, the important thing is for this team to prove the pundits right by continuing to play well. They aren’t going to win every game, but if the team continues playing like they have been over these first nine games, they might just find themselves a home at the top of those Power Rankings for many weeks to come.
