Did I mention that St. Louis Blues coach, Davis Payne, was involved with the Alaska Aces? It might surprise some of you, but we didn’t just snag him from his coaching job in Peoria by chance, no, he’s been in the system for a while now. Payne was the coach of a short-lived ECHL team based in South Carolina, the Pee Dee Pride, and reached playoffs and advanced to the second round in all three years of his coaching there. After his gig in South Carolina, Payne went on to coach the Aces from 2003 to 2007. The Aces reached playoffs every year while Payne was the coach, including 2006′s Kelly Cup (and Brabham Cup) win(s).

If the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs aren’t enough for you and you’re missing your St. Louis Blues, you might want to pay some attention to the Aces appearance in the ECHL Playoffs against the Kalamazoo Wings. You can find the Alaska  Ace’s playoff schedule here. The Aces took the first game in a rousing 5-0 shutout. Cheers to the Aces! Make us proud!
