Let’s Play Hockey Already

The excitement is building for the start of the NHL season. The action gets underway for the league tomorrow night. Sadly, those of us that Bleed Blue have to wait until Saturday to see our hometown boys take on the Nashville Predators.

There are 3 games on the schedule for Thursday night: Philadelphia @ Boston and Montreal @ Toronto both start at 6:00 PM Central. Pittsburgh @ Vancouver is at 9:00. The Flyers/Bruins and Pens/’Nucks games will be televised on Versus. If you don’t have it already, some systems may be offering a free preview of NHL CenterIce and that would allow you to follow the ‘Habs/Leafs game.

As to our Blues, there is an injury of note already and a traffic note for anyone going to the game.

First off, the traffic note: Direct from MO-DOT: TRAFFIC ADVISORY: I-70 will be closed in both directions downtown this weekend between 10th Street and the Poplar Street bridge. Fans traveling to Saturday’s home opener vs. Nashville are encouraged to allow additional time for travel and use I-64 and I-170 as alternate routes.

If you have the time, plan an alternative route that doesn’t involve either I-64 or I-170. Personally, I know the downtown area rather well and can get down there without the use of the major roadways.

As to the game itself, the team has posted on its website that the pre-game ceremonies start at 6:45. All fans get a free team calendar brought to you by **** (I’d be happy to mention the sponsor if they’d sponsor my website), and there will be opportunities to purchase autographed pucks.

Here’s a very cool fund raiser: the team will be selling “unique bracelets” to raise money for the families of the Lokomotiv plane crash in Russia.

The pregame rally outside the Scottrade Center starts at 4:00 and features live music and the Fox Sports pregame show at 6:00.

Injury update: B.J. Crombeen suffered a broken left shoulder in last week’s preseason game against Dallas and will miss significant playing time. Ryan Reaves is expected to pick up the slack and will play on the wing for the fourth line.

Remember to “Don’t Stop Believing” ugh, I still think that’s the worst marketing plan of the year.

GO Blues!
