Alex Pietrangelo, our Bluenote of the Week: Scott Rovak-US PRESSWIRE

Bluenote of the Week

It has been nearly a month since the last Bluenote of the week award, but now that Bleedin’ Blue is back in action we will be handing the award out every Sunday or Monday evening.

The Blues had quite an exciting week filled with ups and downs. The Blues have had both dominating performances and crushing defeats. There were a small handful of candidates this week, including Andy McDonald, David Perron, and Brian Elliot. McDonald was under special consideration due to his exciting return. However, this week’s Bluenote is going to Alex Pietrangelo.

Pietrangelo was all over the ice last week, and has played himself into a bigger role as the season has progressed. The 22 year old defenseman had five points last week, all of which were assists. Its great to see him becoming an active part of the offense, most notably on the power play. The Blues have struggled on the power play all season, and it was a delight to see two of his three assists in the victory against the Islanders come on the power play. The previous week, he scored two goals and an assist against the San Jose Sharks. Pietrangelo also had nine hits and seven blocked shots.

Alex Pietrangelo has undoubtedly already become one of the best young defensemen in the league. Pietrangelo looks like he is forming one of the better defensive tandems on the ice with Kevin Shattenkirk, who is only 23 years old. Blues fans have lots to be excited for with these two, who will hopefully remain cornerstones of the team for years to come.
