Player Recap: David Backes

The Blueshirt captain had another strong season in St. Louis, leading the Blues with 54 points and 24 goals.Ranking sixth on the team in +/- (+15), Backes was on of the the Blues’ most consistent playmaker, and lead the Blues to their first conference semi-final appearance since 2001. Backes was a unfailing two-way player for coach Ken Hitchcock, who kept Backes as the captain despite a rough start in St. Louis. He was also one of the most physical members of the Blues, registering 101 total penalty minutes, good for third on the squad.

Overall, Backes exemplified the attitude that the Blues displayed throughout the impressive season. He was hardworking on the forecheck, opportunistic in the offensive end, and solid on defense through shot blocking and puck interference. He undoubtedly initiated inspired play as captain throughout the season, and will surely be a great asset for the Blues as they look to improve in offseason workouts and into the 2012-2013 season.
