On Tuesday Alex Pietrangelo announced that he will have a minor surgery on his lower body. He had been skating at the Blues practice facility this summer and obviously had some discomfort that prompted him to chose to have surgery. In May, Pietrangelo said surgery was not needed because of the sprained knee caused by the Dwight King boarding in Game One of the Western Conference Semifinals. However it seems very likely to me that the sprained knee could in fact be the reason for the minor surgery.

Whether or not it is for the knee or some other lower body ailment, the procedure is to happen soon and Pietrangelo expects to be ready to go for the first day of camp on September 21. There seems to be no need to worry as Pietrangelo should be ready for camp, and definitely be ready by the season opener on October 11, if in fact there is a game that night. The health of Alex Pietrangelo is going to be a key to the Blues success this year as he is their best all around defensman and a team leader. It is a positive for him to get the surgery done now and be ready to go whenever the season comes around.
