The NHL has officially announced that the league’s September Preseason games have been cancelled. Although this decision was expected, the news is still a bit jarring. The reality of the lockout is beginning to set in for most hockey fans. Speculation and rumor are now worries of the past; the lockout is here and, sadly, we are missing hockey.

The cancellation of the preseason also puts the league’s opening day in jeopardy. Regular-season play is slated to begin on October 11th, but that would only allow for three weeks of mediation to work out a new labor deal and subsequently get players in game shape.
