Swedish Elite League Open to Locked Out NHLers

After the KHL, the Swedish Elite League, Elitserien, is considered one of the other premier European hockey leagues. While it would be an attractive option for locked out NHL players, it has been closed off. Recent reports from Sweden indicate that due to a recent antitrust ruling, the SEL may open up to locked-out players.

Exporting their services has been a popular option for many locked-out NHL stars including Ilya Kovalchuck, Alex Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin, Joe Thornton, and Rick Nash. The KHL and the Swiss A-leagues have been the most popular options so far, but the opening of the SEL would be another attractive option, especially because each foreign league has its own rules concerning imports, and how many they can accept.
