Rivermen Edge Chicago Wolves in AHL Opener

The Rivermen opened up the inaugural AHL preseason with a 2-1 shootout win over the Chicago Wolves in Peoria on Monday. Peoria rallied from a 1-0 deficit early in the first period and tied up the score with five minutes remaining in the first. After that, both goalies – Peoria’s Jake Allen (featured on the right) and Chicago’s Mathieu Corbeil, posted shutouts in the final two period and overtime, until the Rivermen were finally able to breakthrough in the sixth shootout round. The opening game played at Carver Arena was before an estimated 1,200 fans, many of which were probably salivating over the presence of hockey.
