I’m sorry, but I don’t think he played well enough in the 12-13 season to earn above the 6mil mark and lets not use the shortened lockout season as an excuse. He had some issues puck handling and with his decision making. I also don’t see any teams offering 6-8mil for him since the salary cap has been cut not increased. I would say somewhere in the range of 4.5-5.3mil with a 4-7 year contract. I think that is fair. He is only 23 and has time to earn more if he ends up worth more. I’m not trying to say bad things about him as I do believe he is becoming a very good offensive d-man, but I just don’t think he is worth 7+ million.

I would love to see the Blues get him to sign for 4.5-5.5 million on a 7 year deal. That would be a bargain signing of the era. The problem is, Petro will demand a TON in free agency with teams looking to build around him. The Flyers can buyout expensive pieces and add Petro to their backend. They look at him as an investment, not a cost. The Blues are going to have to pay him not based on what he has done but for what he might be able to do.
