NHL Free Agency: Chris Stewart Headed to Arbitration with St. Louis Blues

In 2013 Chris Stewart showed that he was capable of bouncing back to the player that many thought he could be.  He dropped a ton of weight, was in the best shape of his career, worked hard every day, and led the team in scoring at the end of the season.

With Stewart being a restricted free agent with the option of arbitration this year, many believe that Stewart is heading down that road as he believes his value is higher than the Blues do.

GM Doug Armstrong is known for trying to keep contracts at or below the $4.5 million mark, but is Stewart worth more than that.

According to Andy Strickland,

It’s sounding more and more like Chris Stewart and the Blues are heading to arbitration. This was speculated heavily at the draft and the Blues say they have the number they’re looking at in an arb case. Don’t be surprised if a deal gets worked out at the last minute. You can assume Stewart is seeking an AAV north of $4.5 million.

Hopefully the Blues and Stewart can reach a deal before arbitration, but don’t expect Armstrong to let another team make an offer sheet to Stewie.

More as we have it.
