Jay Bouwmeester Signs 5 Year Extension with St. Louis Blues

The St. Louis Blues have announced that Jay Bouwmeester has signed a five-year extension with the St. Louis Blues which will begin in the 2014-15 season.

Bouwmeester was brought to the Blues at the trade deadline in exchange for prospects and a first round pick.

St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong was never quiet about wanting to bring Bouwmeester into the fold of the St. Louis Blues orgainization, and now he will have him as a staple on the blueline for the best years of his career.

The deal contains a no-trade clause and is worth $27 million over the five years and will be broken out as such:

2014-2015 $5 million
2015-2016 $5.6 million
2016-2017 $5.6 million
2017-2018 $5.4 million
2018-2019 $5.4 million

The deal may be a precursor to seeing Alex Pietrangelo sign a new deal.  The pairing is the best that the Blues have seen in recent memory and may just be the duo to lead the Blues to their first Stanley Cup.

What do you think Blues fans?  Is this a good signing for the team, or will it be a big contract that weighs heavy on the organization later in Bouwmeester’s career?  Let us know in the comments below.
