The words that every St. Louis Blues fan is waiting for may not be that far off. While we have spent the offseason waiting for Alex Pietrangelo to sign an extension with the team, the deal is only waiting on minor details to be agreed upon.
Many fans around the NHL hoped that their team might send an offer sheet to Pietrangelo, but many reports have indicated that the young defensive superstar has no plans of leaving the gateway city anytime soon.
Andy Strickland of TrueHockey.com has tweeted and reported that Pietrangelo indicated he would not even look at an offer sheet as his intentions are to stay in St. Louis. With the young player wanting to make at least $7 million per season, Doug Armstrong is debating whether to pay Pietrangelo now for what he could become and lock him up long term, or to get him under a bridge deal and save some money now but perhaps pay even more in the future.
Still, there is no reason for any Blues fan to be worried about the pending contract negotiations. Even if the Blues are without Pietrangelo entering traing camp, he will be a part of the roster on opening day.
So while the terms of the contract may not have been disclosed as of yet, the details are all that need to be worked out as Petro plans on being a Blue and the organization sees him as the face of this club in the future.
Stay tuned for details on the contract when it is announced and for more offseason Blues coverage.
