The new hockey season is actively under way. One thing that many of you may have noticed is an abundance of talented players exhibiting impressive timing, patience and an improved skill-set. The St. Louis Blues are one of the lucky teams to carry a number of talented players this season. One shining star for the Blues that has had a thrilling start this season is forward, Alexander (Alex) Steen. On Friday, the NHL announced the top three stars for the month of October. Steen received the First Star. Second Star was Sidney Crosby, Center with the Pittsburg Penguins, while the Third Star was Antti Niemi, Goalie for the San Jose Sharks.
During the month of October, Alex Steen formed a superb record by achieving 11 goals in 10 games for a total of 16 points. This feat turns out to be a special record, as there have only been three (counting Steen) players (Alex Steen – St. Louis, Ilya Kovalchuk – Atlanta, and Scott Young – St. Louis) in 20 years to obtain 11 goals in 10 games. This is a fantastic achievement; however, can Alex Steen keep up the same intensity and pressure throughout the remainder of the season? We are only in the early months of the regular season, so there is plenty of time for anything to change. However, with Alex Steen’s confidence rising, his keen sense of when to apply the pressure on the ice and his quick skating abilities, he has proven to be a deadly force when on the ice.
So Blues fans, I think over the next few weeks and months, as we watch the team drive through a very ambitious schedule, we are likely to see more shining stars within the team as their confidence grows and they sharpen their skills on the ice. I suspect that the following weeks/months will also include more good things coming from Alex Steen. No matter what is in store for the Blues this season, it will be interesting and exciting. Lets Go Blues!
