Great news, Blues fans! Three St. Louis Blues players have been chosen to play for the men’s Team USA in the Sochi Winter Olympics. Immediately following the conclusion of the Winter Classic on January 1, 2014, between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs, the NHL and the Olympic committee announced all players chosen to participate in the 2014 Winter Olympics for Team USA. The announcement included St. Louis Blues’ players, David Backes, T.J. Oshie and Kevin Shattenkirk. What an honor to be chosen to represent not only the St. Louis Blues on a national format but also the USA while playing in Sochi, Russia.
The St. Louis Blues have a heavy schedule to follow in January but will take a short break in February to make way for the Sochi Winter Olympics. The Olympics activities are schedule to begin on February 6th and will continue through February 23rd. Final details of the exact men’s/women’s hockey schedule will be wrapped up and announced shortly. Stay tuned for more details coming your way.
We are excited to learn of the latest announcement but hope that the players can play hard, play safe and return home, injury free. Upon returning to St. Louis, we hope Backes, Shattenkirk and Oshie will have enough time to get some rest, practice with the team and refocus on the game so we can defeat the Vancouver Canucks on February 26th.
We are also anxious to learn if any additional players will be chosen to represent other countries in the Winter Olympics, such as Russia, Sweden, and Canada, just to name a few.
St. Louis is beaming with pride and wish Center/Captain, David Backes, Defenseman, Kevin Shattenkirk and Right Wing/Assistant Captain, T.J. Oshie and the rest of Team USA luck when playing in Sochi, Russia. Let’s Go Team USA!
