Tonight the St. Louis Blues will take on the recently red-hot Carolina Hurricanes at Raleigh. The Blues haven’t played since Tuesday night, when they managed to shut out the New Jersey Devils by a 3-0 final. Carolina has had two consecutive game-free days as well, but they’re coming off of a loss to the Montreal Canadiens.

Prior to falling to the Habs, the Hurricanes had been playing some outstanding hockey, winning four straight while looking like a team on the rise. They’ve muscled their way back into the playoff picture on the back of some strong play from Eric Staal and Anton Khudobin, and will be looking to get back in the win column by making a statement tonight against the Blues.

St. Louis hit a bit of a rough patch in January, but have seemingly pulled out of the small slump. Winning three straight games since dropping a 7-1 contest to the Devils on January 21, the Blues have slowly returned to their early season form.

The contest has the potential to be a superb one between two teams that are both looking for wins for different reasons—the Blues want to maintain their winning ways after struggling a few weeks ago, while Carolina can’t leave many points on the table at this stage of the season.

There’s star power. There’s intrigue. This should be a Friday night dandy. Hit the jump for all the information and storylines you’ll need heading into the game.
