Goaltending Matchup (Probable Starters)

James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports

The Blue confirmed Jaroslav Halak as their starter yesterday, and we wrote that this was the correct call by Hitchcock.

There’s no need to pull punches: Halak wasn’t at his best against the Senators and will need to be much better against a Bruins team that is capable of attacking early and often. He should be up to the task though. A loss tonight would be the first time all season that Halak has taken three straight defeats.

It’s not confirmed yet, but it’s likely that Boston will start Tuukka Rask this evening. The Finnish Olympian has been impressive this season, and is among the league’s best goalies. He’s fifth in the NHL in wins (25), carries the fourth-best save percentage (.929) and leads the league in shutouts (five).

Rask hasn’t given up more than three goals since the middle of January. Either you believe that he’s due to for stinker, or that he’ll continue to play well. Either way, the Blues have their work cut out for them in beating the 26-year-old for more than a tally or two.
