David Backes is on the board for Team USA.
With the score of America’s game against the Slovaks sitting at 7-1 at the second intermission, just about everyone is one the board for the US, but that’s not the point. While everyone else is busy sniping and tic-tac-toe-ing, Backes is just doing what he does best. Which is bringing the pain on body checks and scoring ugly goals.
Not the greatest quality, but you get the idea. Backes scored off of a mad net-mouth scramble with the Slovaks failing to clear or cover for a solid five or six seconds. The puck ended up in the sights of the St. Louis Blues captain, and he made no mistake with it.
He wasn’t done making headlines for the day though. “Backes” was a trending term on Twitter after he hammered one of Slovakia’s players just as the second period came to a close.
All in all, just another day at the office for the bruising forward. Dan Bylsma has utilized him on the penalty kill, he’s scored an ugly goal and crushed a member of the opposition. All in line with Team USA’s blue-collar mentality.
