Jay Bouwmeester Eyes Impressive Milestone against Ducks

Scott Rovak-USA TODAY Sports

One look at RotoWorld’s NHL page will make it clear that injuries are simply a reality of playing a professional sport for a living. Jay Bouwmeester didn’t get that memo though. In a high-speed sport like hockey where collisions happen all over the ice on a second-to-second basis, the defenseman is closing in on a ridiculous iron man streak.

When he takes the ice against the Anaheim Ducks, it will be his 700th straight game without missing a single one.

700 games. That’s absolutely ridiculous, especially when you consider how many minutes the man typically logs on the blue line. He’s been known as a minute muncher since his days as a member of the Florida Panthers, which makes the streak even more incredible.

It’s not only noteworthy heading into an important matchup with Anaheim. Bouwmeester’s streak is historic.

In a league where the headlines are seemingly always cluttered with players missing games with this sprain or that sickness, the 30-year-old is simply a testament to stability and steady play. Here’s to another 700 straight, Jay!
