The St. Louis Blues made a massive splash prior to the NHL trade deadline by acquiring Steve Ott and Ryan Miller. Both players were scheduled to take part in a contest for the Buffalo Sabres that evening, but were told prior to the game that they’d been traded. St. Louis was their destination, and whirlwind of activity will finally come to a close tonight as the two new Blues can get back to doing what they do best.
And that’s playing some hockey.
They’ll make their debut with the Blues this evening against the Phoenix Coyotes, and arrived to the hotel to meet the team there prior to the matchup. Here’s some video of their entrance, via the official Blues website.
It’s tough to imagine what must be running through both of their minds. Miller in particular likely feels flabbergasted by the entire process. A trade had been seemingly imminent once it became evident that the Sabres weren’t going to challenge for a playoff spot, and as the deadline approached, a deal to move them out of town was all but done.
That finally happened on Friday when St. Louis made a substantial enough offer to land both the veteran netminder and gritty forward.
They’ll ditch the Sabre blue for the Blues’ blue tonight for the first time in Phoenix. All the chatter is finally over. Now they can help the team on the quest to win a Stanley Cup.
