T.J. Oshie went to the 2014 Winter Olympics as just another member of the team. He was a bubble decision to make the final roster, and it was assumed that he’d play a depth role on an American team that had a lot of offensive ability up front. Then the Americans went to a shootout against Russia during the preliminary round, and that all changed.
The 27-year-old came back home to much fanfare despite the US bombing out with a fourth-place finish in Sochi. He and his fiancee Lauren Cosgrove have been under a hot spotlight since the shootout performance against Russia, and Oshie recently took the time to break down his methodical shootout move with EXTRA.
Now that we’ve seen the explanation, let’s watch it in practice.
While Oshie and the rest of Team USA would have preferred a better outcome once the elimination round started, it’s still fun to see an underrated player like the former first-round pick get his due around the NHL. He’s appeared in various interviews over the last few weeks and has become a bit of a celebrity in St. Louis.
