Vladimir Tarasenko Becomes First Russian to Score 20 Goals for St. Louis Blues

The St. Louis Blues haven’t always had a lot of luck with Russian-born players. Vladimir Tarasenko seems to be bucking that trend. He scored his 20th goal of the year last night against the Edmonton Oilers, and became the first Russian to ever reach that plateau for St. Louis.

The Blues now have four players with 20 goals or more. In the NHL, only three teams boast that same number as St. Louis join the Chicago Blackhawks and the Colorado Avalanche.

Tarasenko showed some flashes of his immense talent last season but struggled to get back on track following a concussion towards the middle of the year. It seemed that Blues fans were already going into tampering expectations mode for the former first-round draft pick, but he’s played some outstanding hockey for St. Louis, avoiding any sort of sophomore slump.

He was great on a line that featured T.J. Oshie and Vladimir Tarasenko against Edmonton, and it will be interesting to see if head coach Ken Hitchcock sticks with that trio moving forward.

He’s a very big piece of The Blues Offense. I hope he comes back healthy as soon as possible. His skill, hockey IQ and confidence is irreplaceable.
