The St. Louis Blues have a chance to be the first team in the NHL to clamp down a playoff spot tonight when they take on the Chicago Blackhawks. With a win they’ll have 103 points, which will be enough to mathematically ensure that they make the postseason no matter what happens the rest of the way.

Chicago is coming off of a tough overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers last night and could be in the mood for revenge. The Blues will be the more well-rested team though and will be fired up by the opportunity to secure a playoff spot with so much of the season left to go.
There will still be the Presidents’ Trophy race to worry about after clinching, so it’s not like head coach Ken Hitchcock will suddenly start resting his players. Still, this would be a nice feather in the cap for the Blues with a few weeks left to go in the regular season.
