St. Louis Blues Playoff Spot Clinching Scenario

The St. Louis Blues missed a chance to clinch a playoff spot last night by failing to defeat the Chicago Blackhawks. They’re idle this evening, but things could still work out in St. Louis’ favor. NHL.com breaks down the scenario in which the Blues could make it into the postseason despite not playing this evening:

The St. Louis Blues (idle) would become the first team to clinch a berth in the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs if the Dallas Stars lose in regulation to the Philadelphia Flyers AND the Phoenix Coyoteslose in any fashion to the Florida Panthers.

This is an important reminder of just how stellar the Blues have been lately.

They got their lunches fed to them in Chicago last night, but bad games happen from time to time. St. Louis still maintains a six-point lead in the Central Division, has a game-in-hand on the ‘Hawks and possesses a four-point lead over the Anaheim Ducks in the race for the Presidents’ Trophy.

Getting hammered by the ‘Hawks wasn’t fun, but there’s still plenty to be optimistic about moving forward.
