St. Louis Blues Clinch Playoff Spot

The St. Louis Blues didn’t come away with a victory against the Philadelphia Flyers yesterday, but they got some help elsewhere and were able to become the first team in the NHL to clinch a playoff spot because of it.

They needed the Boston Bruins to defeat the Phoenix Coyotes after failing to grab at least a point against Philadelphia, and the B’s took care of business with a 4-2 win.

There’s still some work to be done if the Blues want to win the Presidents’ Trophy, but securing a trip to the postseason is a nice nod to what St. Louis has been able to do lately. They took back-to-back losses to the Chicago Blackhawks and Flyers but are still in the midst of an outstanding stretch of play.

The Blues bounced back from a poor defensive showing against the Flyers to take down the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier today, so the ship appears to be on course for St. Louis.
