The Los Angeles Kings currently sit in 3rd place in the Pacific Division, and if the playoffs started today they’d face-off against Anaheim in a West-Coast 1st round match-up, but with 11 games remaining anything can happen. This is the NHL, after all, and should Phoenix or (gasp) Vancouver go on a run while the Kings fall on their faces, the St. Louis Blues could find themselves yet again going up against LA in Round 1.
Blues fans may have mixed feelings about such a potential playoff opponent, given how things have gone the last few years between the two teams. Revenge? Fear? It would certainly make for an interesting series and this year’s Blues are much better than the two previous season’s teams. St. Louis was 1-2-0 versus the Kings this season, but their win was a 5-0 shellacking and a shut-out by Brian Elliott. The goaltender who absorbed the two losses for the Blues isn’t even wearing the Bluenote anymore.
The teams finished the season series nearly even in shots against (82-84,) goals against (8-7,) and face-offs won (87-87.) Would another series be as close as those numbers seem to say? Let’s look at how they stack up today.
