After a frustrating loss on Saturday against the Dallas Stars, the St. Louis Blues are preparing for the remaining eight games in the regular hockey season. One of the areas that the coaching staff will most likely be scrutinizing is goaltending. Following Saturday’s loss, has the honeymoon ended for St. Louis Blues’ goaltender, Ryan Miller? Will the Blues choose to start Brian Elliott or Ryan Miller on April 1st against the Philadelphia Flyers?
Miller has had a good run since debuting with the Blues on March 2, 2014, by providing impressive numbers in just 13 games – 28 goals allowed out of 318 shots on goal. Elliott has also racked in an impressive amount in his last 13 games – 22 goals allowed out of 285 shots on goal, including 2 shut-outs. Both goalies have shined while on the ice but also faced a lot of intensity and pressure when facing their opponents. However, consistency is something that we must have in order to be a winning team on all areas of the ice, especially from our goaltenders. Can Elliott and Miller be the strong backbone that the Blues need to push ahead over the next few weeks to help the team reach first place? Will both goaltenders be able to handle the pressure during the playoffs so St. Louis can bring home the Stanley Cup?
Based upon Miller’s moves in the latest loss, I think Elliott may be the best choice for the starting goaltender when we face the Flyers on Tuesday. While we cannot blame the goaltenders for every loss, they often face a lot of hostility from the fans when the team does not overtake their competitors. Do you think Coach, Ken Hitchcock will choose Elliott or Miller? Who do you think is the better choice for the starting goaltender?
Like all Blues fans, I hope that the team can brush off the last few losses and focus more on what they need to do to win the next few games and prepare for the playoffs. Let’s Go Blues! Watch the game on Tuesday, April 1st at 7:00 p.m. CT on NBCSN.
