Tonight the St. Louis Blues and the Chicago Blackhawks will square off in Game One of their first round 2013-14 NHL Stanley Cup playoff series. This one is going to be jam-packed with intrigue. There’s the geographic rivalry in play, but sometimes two teams can get along fine despite proximity.
That isn’t the case here. Both Chicago and St. Louis have Stanley Cup aspirations, but are in very different places heading into this opening round. The Blues lost six consecutive games to close out the season after making through the entire year without dropping three in a row.
Injuries hampered them down the stretch and caused them to miss out on the Presidents’ Trophy and Central Division title. They now must put that behind them as the defending Stanley Cup champions come to town. The ‘Hawks got Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews back just in time for Game One, and St. Louis will be able to ice David Backes and Vladimir Tarasenko.
There will be no T.J. Oshie, however.
Will the Blackhawks be able to go into St. Louis and steal home ice advantage away? Or can the Blues overcome various personnel issues in the rear view en route to a 1-o series lead? Tune in to find out. Here’s how:
