The St. Louis Blues are inching closer to hitting the ice for the upcoming hockey season. A few news notes further tangiblized that fact.

The St. Louis Blues are getting closer and closer to putting skates on the ice for the 2016-17 season. Each day that passes gets us one day further toward what we are all waiting for – opening day.

Of course, there are tons of countdowns going on on social media. Usually, there are clever pictures or tweets about how the season is (insert player with matching number) days. It’s been a little harder with the St. Louis Blues as they haven’t traditionally had a lot of guys with higher numbers.

Even so, a few notable things were released that make the hockey season that much more of a real, tangible thing.

The St. Louis Blues announced that single-game tickets will go on sale to the public on Friday, August 26 at 10 a.m. Outside of the schedule release, that’s about as real as it gets to fans in terms of fully realizing that the season is on the horizon.

Now, people should realize that this is only the normal regular season games and preseason games. There is likely to never be any Winter Classic tickets released to the public, outside of the secondary ticket markets, but if there was it would not be on that Friday date.

Additional to the fact that hockey is closing in on us, the Blues have expanded their giveaways and theme nights and this season is no different. They’re going to have Boy and Girl Scout Nights, various college nights, the ever-popular Star Wars Night.

More from Prospects

The team is also going to have some pretty good giveaways that will likely be hot tickets. There are calendars, beer steins and team posters. Also, the team is giving away Blues hoodies on December 3 and a 1967 replica jersey on January 31. I may not make it to either, but those are ones I will definitely keep on my radar.

The interesting thing about the jerseys is they will feature more modern players (Hull, MacInnis, Pronger, Federko etc.) on the back.

It will be fun to plan things out and actually get tickets in hand.

In addition to the NHL tickets being released soon, the AHL also released their schedule. So, the Chicago Wolves, being part of that league, have released their part of the schedule.

The good folks over at St. Louis Game Time congregated the schedule. You can view it in its entirety here.

Sadly, there aren’t any incredibly close AHL cities. For fans wanting to catch a game featuring some of the Blues’ prospects, they’ll have to travel to Rosemont to see the Wolves at home. Des Moines and Rockford are also within reasonable driving distance too.

The Blues have some exciting talent coming through the ranks. It will be exciting to see who ends up on the Wolves’ roster once the Blues make their training camp decisions and cut-downs.

Most of all, it’s a fun time and also a bit of an anxiety inducing time. Similar to the buildup before Christmas, the season is almost upon us but is still far enough away for fans to be getting eager for it to finally be here.

The season is fast approaching. Probably not fast enough for some, but it’s coming. Training camp will be in just about a month while the World Cup is just before that.

Now, with single-game tickets going on sale at the end of the week and the AHL schedule coming out, fans can fully make real decisions about which games they’re going to and where. Hockey is almost upon us and all we need now is a fresh sheet of ice.
