Good morning Blues fans! Happy Punch a Red Wing in the face day! It only comes but once a year now, so soak up the festivity.

The St. Louis Blues take on the Detroit Red Wings tonight, marking the only time the ice at Scottrade will be sullied by their foul presence. It is Punch a Red Wing in the face day as well, so go nuts.

Of course, we here at Bleedin’ Blue and FanSided do not condone such actions *cough*. In all seriousness, that is simply a joke started by local radio personality, Randy Karraker back when the Red Wings were the Blues’ primary rival.

The Blues and Red Wings do not have the length of history as do the Blackhawks, but the rivalry was heated. Sadly, it seemed to always go Detroit’s way when it mattered most.

Like the Blackhawks last year, beating Detroit in the playoffs would have been a huge weight off the team’s shoulders. Unfortunately, the Red Wings moved east before it could happen.

Now, the rivalry only happens twice a year, once in each building. It is a shame that it was taken away, but with an overcrowded division, what can you do?

The two teams split their games last year. Interestingly, the road team won both.

The Blues will try to turn that around tonight and need to do so. After three games at home we’ve seen a good performance against Minnesota, a mediocre (though injury plagued) performance against New York and and downright bad performance against Calgary.

We, or at least I, keep telling ourselves it was a one off. Just one bad game.

However the poor showings have been a little too often on home ice the last year or so and this team needs to put a stop to it. What better team to do that against than the Red Wings?

Here are your St. Louis Blues Morning Links to get your day started right.

The Blues righting their wrongs at home will be tough with the current streak the Red Wings are on.  Detroit is on a hot streak after dropping their first two games (FoxSports Midwest)

In case you missed it, the Blues’ AHL affiliate made their choice regarding their goaltenders.  It was not a surprise, but a tiny bit disappointing.  (Bleedin’ Blue)

Many Blues fans soured on Jay Bouwmeester in the last year or two.  Still, he has proven enough to his teams and that is shown in his longevity as he approaches his 1000th game.  (NHL)

Ken Hitchcock loves to toy with the media and this being his last year in St. Louis has not changed that (if anything it is worse). He does not seem to be joking when saying Jori Lehtera may see time on the wing. (STLToday)

The Tkachuk family went all Benedict Arnold on the Blues on Tuesday night.  It’s ok though.  Family and all.  (STLToday)

Former Blue and fan favorite, TJ Oshie was given the business a little last night.  At least the Blues’ loss to the Oilers isn’t looking so bad.  (NBCSN)

Speaking of former Blues, David Backes is out of action for a brief time.  He had a piece of his elbow removed that sounded like something out of science fiction.  Fans of the big forward need not worry as he won’t miss too much.  (NHL)

Blues fans worrying about seeing the Adidas logo on their jersey apparently won’t have to worry about it.  Fanatics will be making all fan purchased jerseys starting next year.  (ESPN)
