Good morning Blues fans! The St. Louis Blues beat the Boston Bruins 4-2 last night and got the best of their former colleague.

The St. Louis Blues continued their winning ways last night. Though they were scored on first and allowed Boston to take the lead twice, they persevered.

The Blues took down the Bruins by a final score of 4-2. Perhaps just as important, to fans anyway, the team beat their former leader.

In what was, no doubt, an emotional game for David Backes, the Blues came out on top. It was not without at least a small measure of personal success for the former captain though.

As though fate had preordained it, Backes scored the opening goal of the game. Though he is the type of person that would rather have the win than score at all, it can’t have gone without a little personal joy.

Even the kindest of players have that internal fire. It is hard to imagine Backes didn’t take a quick glance to the pressbox, toward whatever Blues management was in house, and think “You guys could have had that.”

In the end, it was Jake Allen that stole the show though. The team had some fantastic moments and looked like their old selves from the start of the season, but the third period belonged to the Snake.

Allen made 39 stops against the Bruins in that contest. Many of them were of a difficult variety as Boston poured on the pressure down the stretch.

The Blues goaltender made a fantastic stop at the end of the game to save the lead as well. With a good push off his right leg, he got over to the left post and stopped what may have been a Boston goal.

Those are the kind of moments you need from your goaltender as a season goes along. Those are the moments Allen is providing with more regularity.

St. Louis’ win streak is at a season high of four games now. Unfortunately there is little time to savor the win as they immediately play the Washington Capitals tonight.

Former friends aside, the Blues need to keep on this momentum. If they can ride this wave and pick up another win, they’ll be more than entitled to fatten up a little bit over the holiday.

The Blues have had a surprising amount of success against the Bruins in Boston. Last night was just another example. The team managed to score some pretty decent goals as well, including some from close quarters, which was almost unheard of during their losing streak. As the days get us closer to the Winter Classic, the alumni are getting more nostalgic.  Gino Cavallini will suit up in the note one more time for the alumni game, but first remembered how much he enjoyed playing for the city and its passionate fans.  (KMOX)

The St. Louis Blues are used to getting contributions from players that were not expected to do much.  Heck, David Perron is currently tied for the team lead in goals.  It is the team’s fourth line that has been the biggest surprise though.  They’ve always had the effort, but are now rewarding the team for its faith in them.  (Bleedin’ Blue)

The franchise that will play in Sin City got it’s name last night.  They will be the Vegas Golden Knights.  Not sure what happened to the Las.  Perhaps it was left at the poker table.  As usual, though it can be a cesspool of hate, Twitter managed to come up with plenty of amusing reaction to the name and the unveiling.  (Fansided)

Craig Janney won’t be playing for the Blues in the Winter Classic Alumni Game.  That doesn’t mean he didn’t have a great career and was a solid player for the Blues.  He reflected on it recently and attributes his drive to the Miracle on Ice.  (NHL)

The Blues and the entire NHL will have to see at least one awful beard in San Jose for a long time to come.  Brent Burns just signed a lengthy deal to stay in the bay.  (ESPN)
