Good morning Blues fans! The St. Louis Blues are out east to begin a four game road trip and might see a familiar face.

The St. Louis Blues are out east today to start their road trip. Tonight’s game used to feature a visit to Long Island, but now the Blues have to spend some time in Brooklyn.

It’s the Blues against the no longer aptly named New York Islanders tonight from the Barclay Center. Tonight’s game represents an opportunity for the Blues to reverse some trends.

On the less important side, there is a chance for revenge, redemption or whatever synonym you choose to enter there. The Isles beat the Blues in both games they saw each other last season.

New York won 2-1 at home last season and then 3-2 in St. Louis. The Blues will be looking to turn that scenario back around this year with this being their first meeting. The Blues are 7-3-0 vs. the Islanders this decade.

On a more important note, this game represents an opportunity for the Blues to get on track on the road. Despite their current place in the standings, the Blues have been quite awful away from home.

They currently have a 3-6-1 mark when away from the Scottrade Center. While it’s great to see the team setting up their home ice as a fortress, you can’t be that far below .500 for too much longer and expect to be a legitimate contender.

This game represents a good opportunity for the Blues. The Islanders are definitely better than their record shows, but as Dennis Green said, they are what we thought they were and the Blues can’t let them off the hook.

The Blues need to treat them with respect, but we should expect a team in second in the Central to take down the team with the worst record in the Eastern Conference.

Here are your St. Louis Blues Morning Links to get your day started off right.

In addition to the Blues road woes, they have been forcing themselves to needlessly waste some energy in overtimes and shootouts. That fact is not beyond the Blues head coach and has him a bit worried about energy levels with the games packed so tightly on this trip. (Post-Dispatch)

While the Blues can’t seem to settle on any trio other than their fourth line and even that hasn’t stuck together completely, they do have some pairs that perform well together.  One such pair is Paul Stastny and Jaden Schwartz.  The only thing that would make their pairing better would be if someone on the Blues had a last name beginning with O, so we could have an SOS line since the Blues turn to that duo when they are in trouble.  (STLToday)

The Blues and their fans are focused on results, especially on the road, but the Islanders have other pressing matters.  One such worry is the future of John Taveres with his contract winding down.  (Eye On Isles)

The NHL Board of Governors begin their Winter Meetings today.  One of the topics being covered is the idea of the NHL players continuing to take part in the Olympics, though it has been dragged out far too long.  (NHL)

John Scott was somewhat of a nobody prior to last season’s intrigue surrounding his All-Star voting, exclusion and then inclusion.  Now that we all know who he is, he’s calling it a career.  (ESPN)

Have a great day Blues fans!
