Overview:
The Blues put themselves in an odd position for this game. You can't just expect to win against the team that is leading the Pacific division, but the Blues almost had to win after crapping the bed in Utah.
On the one hand, you can now say they've won three of four, which is something they have to start doing. However, a loss would have put them right back at .500.
The Blues are too up and down. They simply can't afford to fall back to .500 and think they can dig themselves out.
Yes, we all remember the magical run in 2018-19. St. Louis was still around the bottom of the barrel at this point in the year, but those are once-in-a-lifetime runs.
The Blues need to chip their way out. You're not going to bulldoze through a foot of ice, so you need to start chipping away at it and not slip too many times.
This win was good. It stinks to need the shootout, but you got the extra point. It doesn't matter that Vegas got anything since they're so far ahead that the Blues aren't competing with them for a spot.
A 4-2 win would have been better, but St. Louis found a way to get it done regardless. The Blues have gained points in 13 of 17 games in Vegas now.
Beating Vegas in St. Louis is a little more of a mixed bag. That's where the next game happens as the Blues play another mini-playoff series as they try to win two in a row.
