Jack Adams Award: Mike Yeo

The Jack Adams Award possibility is an intriguing one, on the face of it. Mike Yeo does not strike most as the best coach in the league.

However, that’s not exactly what the Award is about. Yes, it is usually thought of as the best coach within a season, but the criteria – like MVP vs most outstanding player – changes.

Sometimes, they simply give the award to the coach of the best regular season team – they did that with Quenneville with the Blues and Bruce Boudreau of the Washington Capitals.

Other years, it is given to the coach who led a team from the basement to the playoffs ala Patrick Roy or a coach that took a team with little expectation and had a great season. Gerard Gallant pops to mind in that last part.

Do I really think Yeo is going to win coach of the year? Probably not.

However, we should all want him to. Getting enough success to be in the mix for this award means the team did really well. You never see coaches of teams that miss the playoffs winning coach of the year. So, if Yeo gets this award, we should be pretty pleased with how the 2018-19 season went for the Blues.
