Blues Become Prey for Predators – NSH 4, STL 3

AUTHOR: Patrick Milford | IN: Blues | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

You don’t scratch a healthy #1 draft pick, even to send a message. Period. And yet, this is exactly what Blues head coach Andy Murray did this Tuesday night, when the Blues hosted the Nashville Predators. Erik Johnson, the Blues best defender (arguably the best overall player) and #1 overall pick in 2006 was a healthy scratch in a game when they certainly could have used his puck moving abilities and heavy shot, as St. Louis fell to their Central Division rivals 4-3.
In typical Blues fashion, St. Louis fans were promised false hope as Carlo Colaiacovo scored less than two [...]

Awwww Snapped! MIN 4, STL 3

All good things must come to an end. Sad, but true.
The Wild hosted the Blues this Saturday and snapped St. Louis’ season high 3 game winning streak.
Even with defensive stalwart Jacques Lemaire coaching a new team this season, the Minnesota Wild still put up impressive resistance to St. Louis’ quick attack. Shots were kept to a minimum (STL 18, MIN 20), but a number of good scoring chances on each side were converted for a combined 7 goals.
Former Montreal Canadien Guillaume Latendresse led off tonight’s scoring on an embarrassing play for the Blues defense. The hefty winger gained the blue [...]

Lightning Strikes – TBL 6, STL 3

AUTHOR: Patrick Milford | IN: Blues | COMMENTS: None Yet

For the St. Louis Blues, it appears that home wins are like lightning: they don’t strike twice…in a row.
This Friday the St. Louis Blues hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning, who were winless in six previous contests. Tampa overcame the Blues with a final score of 6-3, despite being outshot 26-24.
Brad Winchester (that’s right, Brad Winchester) started off tonight’s scoring with his first of the season, snapping a 29-game goal drought. It was a nice goal and led many to believe that tonight’s matchup might be a scoring frenzy.
But the Scottrade Center died just as quickly as it sprang to life. [...]

One Hull of a Game – Blues 4, Flames 3

AUTHOR: Patrick Milford | IN: Blues | COMMENTS: None Yet

My physics teacher says that fire and electricity are two equal forces that occur in the natural world. Tonight, in the hockey world, electricity beats out fire.
On Tuesday night, the Blues honored their recent Hall of Fame inductee, Brett Hull, in style. They rounded up Hull’s “Dream Team,” a group of former Notes chosen by Hull himself to remind the sniper just how much he means to St. Louie. The crowd went wild, as Hull told fans that the Blues would hold a special place in his heart “until they bury me in this ground.”
The young Blues fed off the [...]

Old Fashioned Passion – Blues vs. Calgary preview

AUTHOR: Patrick Milford | IN: Blues | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Blues veterans Keith Tkachuk and Barret Jackman have finally discovered what’s missing from their lineup: passion. It’s about damn time. I’m a fan of the humble hockey player; that’s what makes the game so classy. But every once in a while, players need to show some fire! (*Ahem Brad Boyes, Patrik Berglund)
No one can say that the Blues don’t compete. This squad is well-respected league-wide for being a gritty, driven team. Lately, the young Blues simply don’t have that extra push that usually results in goals.
Tkachuk and Jackman are doing their part to inspire younger players by taking on extra [...]
