St. Louis Blues Acquire Zack Phillips From Boston Bruins
In a week where we are dying for anything related to our team, the St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins have come together to make a minor trade.
According to Mark Divver of the Providence Journal, the St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins have come together to make a trade. The Blues have acquired Zack Phillips from the Boston Bruins for future considerations.
Phillips is a center, who was once a first round draft pick of the Minnesota Wild, as he was selected 28th overall in the 2011 NHL Draft.
At this point, this is just a depth move. Phillips was once a highly touted prospect, as he scored 38 goals in 2010-2011 and 30 goals in 2011-2012 for the Saint John Sea Dogs.
However, as Hockey’s Future mentions, this was largely due to playing alongside Jonathan Huberdeau. Since becoming a professional in 2012-13, Phillips has not impressed, as the most points he has totaled in his career is 33 (2013-14).

This move is honestly a move to help Wolves out, as it seems that every week someone is making the trip down I-55 to St. Louis to take place of yet another injured Blue. However, Phillips is still just 23 years old, so there is still the chance that things click for him.
However, him all of a sudden becoming a scorer is just not going to happen. As Hockey’s Future mentions, he doesn’t have the ability to be a bottom six checking forward either.
So, as I said earlier, this is simply just an organizational depth move. It will be interesting to see what the Blues ended up giving up in this deal.
Next: Blues Standing Pat at the Deadline is a Good Move
Even if Phillips were to be much at the NHL level this season, he would not be eligible to make the postseason roster, which is why we have the Trade Deadline. For all of you clamoring for the team to make a move, here you go. It’s not the move for the scorer we all would like, but it is a move that could help the club out in the long run, as depth is never a bad thing to have.
