The NHL regular season begins a week from today. Season ticket holders are looking forward to 41 fantastic home games this season, and hopefully many more in a long playoff run.
But what about those of us without season tickets? Maybe you couldn’t afford the whole season but your spouse will let you pick seven games to go to this season.
“Why seven games? What an arbitrary number. How about ten games?”
“Five is a nice round number. Would that work better?”
“Seven sounds fantastic. Thanks honey!”
So here you are with a full schedule ahead of you and only seven games you can go to. How do you pick? Lucky for you, I’ve done all the hard work. Just flip through the next seven slides and you will know exactly when to be at the Scottrade Center for a great season of hockey.

This may have been the easiest choice.
Since the last Blues home game was in April, watching this game on tv simply won’t suffice. To get your Blues fix you have to be there as the season kicks off. The first game of the Blues season is Thursday October 8, against the Edmonton Oilers (tickets).

Let’s leave out all the fun of the season opener for a moment and just look at the match up. The Oilers have not been a good team in recent seasons. The upside to this is the Oilers have ended up with four number one draft picks since 2010.
Connor McDavid is probably the most promising of the bunch. McDavid was drafted earlier this year and has been getting attention for years regarding his generational talent. Even Wayne Gretzky laid on the praise.
The next big thing will begin his NHL career in the Scottrade Center. If you want to see him play this season, the home opener will be your only chance.
Enjoy one of the loudest most energetic crowds of the year. Witness the season opening festivities. Regardless of the outcome, this game should be a memorable one for everyone in attendance.

October 27, 2015 Tampa Bay Lightning @ 7 p.m.
“Big Ben” Bishop is the goalie for the Tampa Bay Lightning. There a few reasons people at the Scottrade Center might recognize his name.
Some people may remember Bishop from his time playing with Chaminade High School in St. Louis. Or perhaps they remember him from his time with the Blues. But most hockey fans will recognize him as the goalie that led the Lightning to the Stanley Cup Final last season.
Just like the Oilers, the Lightning will only be making one trip to St. Louis this season.
Bishop is a talented goalie on the best team in the Eastern Conference from last year. If you want to see one of the best teams in the league and show your support for a St. Louis native this is a game that you must attend.

November 21, 2015 Detroit Red Wings @ 7 p.m.
Continuing with the Eastern Conference theme, the Detroit Red Wings will be making their lone trip to the Scottrade Center on Saturday, November 21.

While this is far from a grand rivalry, fans of both teams will remember the years the Red Wings spent in the Central Division. Since the realignment of the league leading up to the 2013-2014 season, these teams only face each other twice a year.
I personally remember Blues vs. Red Wings games as fast paced entertaining match ups. I know this is one game I will be going to because I miss the regularity of match-ups from a few years ago. If you want to see this original-six team in St. Louis, November 21 will be your only chance this season.

December 17, 2015 Nashville Predators @ 7 p.m.
This summer St. Louis lost their longest tenured athlete when the Blues did not re-sign defenseman Barret Jackman. The 34-year-old had played his entire career up to this point with the Blues. That all changed leading up to this season.
The Nashville Predators quickly signed Jackman to a free agent contract, ensuring he would stay in the Central Division. The Predators will host the Blues on November 7. This will be a big game for Jackman, but it won’t be anything compared to when he returns to St. Louis.
Jackman and the Predators play two games at the Scottrade Center this season, both during December. As a divisional game, all Predators games should be great to attend, but December 17 will be a special one.
When Jackman steps onto the ice on December 17 it will be for the first time in his career as a player of any team other than the Blues. Make sure to show up early for this game, as Jackman will start if he is healthy, and he could get an ovation louder than any current Blue that night.
I know I will pay my tribute to a player who gave us most of his career, I hope you will too.

January marks the month that another great Eastern Conference team makes their way to St. Louis. On Monday, January 18 the Pittsburgh Penguins play the Blues at the Scottrade Center.

Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Phil Kessel, and a former member of the Blues (David Perron) are just a few of the players on their roster. This game has a lot of potential to be a high scoring shootout.
Crosby has staked his claim as one of the best players in the game, and he has the skills to take over on any given night. Malkin and Crosby are each the type of players that make it worth attending regardless of the quality of the rest of the team.
Fortunately for them, the rest of their team is good too. If you want to see world class players and a team that always puts up a great game (in the regular season at least), then this is the game to go to.
Next: Finally A Blackhawks Game

March 9, 2016, Chicago Blackhawks @ 7 p.m.
Finally! Just when it seemed like there wasn’t going to be a Blackhawks game on this list, March 9, 2016 shows up.
While the Blues do play the Blackhawks at home earlier in the season (November 14), this is the one for someone who only gets to 7 games a year. The timing of this game helps break up the long gap between game 5 and 7 of your season series.
The regular season ends April 9, 2016. With a month left in the season, this Blues vs Blackhawks game should have a playoff feel. The battle for the top spot in the Central Division and Western Conference should be in full swing.
Take this opportunity to see last years Stanley Cup champions, and witness the best rivalry in the Central Division.

April 9, 2016, Washington Capitals @ 7 p.m.
April 9, 2016 marks the end of the regular season. The Blues end with a great game, as they will be hosting the Washington Capitals for the only time this season.
Yes, another Eastern Conference team makes the list. For the sake of full disclosure I’ll be honest, this slide is much less devoted to a team than a player. Alex Ovechkin is one of the most entertaining players in the league.
He could be waiting out on the face off dot for the powerplay one timers that always put him near the top of the league for goals. Perhaps he is throwing his body around with ridiculously physical body checks. He may be slowly wandering back on defense and not trying at all. Regardless, Alex Ovechkin is always a player worth watching.
Even for those that are not fans of Ovechkin or the Capitals, the last game is always Fan Appreciation day.
I hope these seven games will help with your choices for the season. Any here that you would not go to? What about other games that should be included? Comment with your thoughts below.
