The St. Louis Blues released part of their promotional schedule for 2018-19. It has some pretty good items being handed out for just the price of a ticket.

Like many teams, the St. Louis Blues use promotional nights to get extra fans through the door and, hopefully, butts in the seats. 2018-19 will be no different.

The Blues released part of their promotional schedule on Monday. The list includes their giveaway nights, while the team will announce the theme nights later in the summer.

Almost all of the giveaway nights are during the week, which is to be expected. That is half the plan, trying to get more people to attend the game than normally would on a school night.

However, interestingly enough, the magnet schedule will be given away on a Saturday game against the Chicago Blackhawks. That is somewhat strange on two fronts.

First, the game will be packed anyway, since it’s a weekend game against a rival that usually puts about 25% of the seats as red. Second, you’re going to be wasting a lot of schedules since Blackhawks fans aren’t going to want them. But, I digress. Hopefully Blues fans will snatch up the ones left on the floor and find good homes for them.

The most intriguing giveaway night is probably the player bobblehead on January 8. There has been a slightly disturbing trend of bobblehead nights being theme nights, where you have to buy a special ticket. Season ticket holders often end up on the short end of the stick in that regard.

This particular one is a general giveaway. The first 12,000 fans will receive the bobblehead. That’s a good thing and avoids some confusion, especially since those tend to be quite popular.

The calendar, team poster and yearbook are yearly staples. They’ll be given out October 4, November 19 and December 5, respectively.

The shirts are always interesting, due to the quality. Sometimes, they are a little cheap looking and you can tell they were free. Other times, the shirts are very good and look like something that would sell for a high price in the fan shop. The pictures of the “performance long sleeve” and quarter-zip pullover look very good.

However, until you have one in your hand, it’s hard to say for sure. Those will be given out November 6 and February 19.

Last, but not least, the Heritage beanie and scarf will be given out on December 11. That one is probably the biggest stroke of marketing genius out of these all. The game is against the Florida Panthers, so most fans would shrug that off. However, anything with the Winter Classic-style crest and colors is still hot right now. Fans will definitely want to get there early for that game because those will go like hotcakes.

As said, the Blues will have other theme nights. Star Wars night has become an almost yearly affair and there are usually things like military appreciation, Halloween and casino nights. The ones that have giveaways there usually require the special ticket. We’ll see what they have in store for that later.

In terms of pure giveaways, this list is pretty good. There were fewer than some might expect, but if the clothing items are quality, then the cost of producing 12,000 of those items probably limited the number of nights overall.

Even so, it is always fun to have a little keepsake from your trip to the Blues game. Now, if they manage to win all those games as well, those fans will go home extra happy.
