The St. Louis Blues will enter the new year with a matchup against the Washington Capitals at the Enterprise Center. The Blues will also get a week off due to the All-Star Game on the 27th.

The St. Louis Blues will only play 12 games in January and just five of them will be at home. The Blues will also play two sets of back to back games, three of those games are on the road.

St. Louis has had a lot of success in recent years in the second game of back to backs, and have been one of the top teams in the league in that situation.

Part of that success has been having two goaltenders who are capable of shutting down opposing teams. We will see if that narrative changes with Chad Johnson going into the season as the Blues backup goalie.

The combined record last season for teams that St. Louis will face in January is 364-310-96 and features two games against reigning Stanley Cup Champions Washington Capitals.

The Blues will finish a five-game homestand with two home games to open the new year. The Capitals will come to town on January 3rd, then the New York Islanders will travel to St. Louis Saturday, January 5th.

St. Louis will then play their first of two back to back games on January 7th when they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Flyers.

The team will then travel back home to take on central division rival Dallas Stars.

The Blues will face the Canadiens at home before hitting the road for five straight games.

The road trip opens with a game in Dallas against the Stars on January 12th. The Blues will then head to Washington D.C. to take on the Capitals for the second time in the month.

The Blues will take a short trip to the Barclays Center to take on the Islanders the next day to wrap up their second back to back of the month.

St. Louis will wrap up their road trip in Boston on the 17th before returning home to face the Ottowa Senators for the final home game of the month on January 19th.

Another long road trip will begin on January 21st when they head to Los Angeles to face the Kings. The Blues will wrap up the January slate two days later in Anaheim before traveling to the east coast to face a variety of Eastern Conference teams.

San Jose will host the 2019 All-Star game on January 27th which will split up the five-game road trip. Alex Pietrangelo and Brayden Schenn represented the Blues at the All-Star game in Tampa Bay a season ago.

St. Louis will try to bounce back to have a better showing in the winter months. Goaltending has been an issue in December and January in recent seasons, but an improved offense should help right the ship.
