Robert Thomas was thought to have the best chance to make the St. Louis Blues opening day roster and that’s exactly what he did.
The St. Louis Blues announced their opening day roster on Tuesday afternoon and Thomas has been named as one of the 12 forwards.
Coming into training camp, the Blues told everyone that Robert Thomas was going to be given every opportunity to make the team. He got off to a slow start, but he played well enough down the stretch to make the team.
During the preseason, Thomas played in six of the seven preseason games for the Blues. He scored only one goal but registered three assists and was tied for second on the team with four points.

Thomas tore up the OHL last season., splitting time between the London Knights and the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Thomas took home the playoff MVP in the OHL, continuing a great regular season performance.
In the regular season, Thomas registered 24 goals, 51 assists, and 75 points in just 49 games played.
St. Louis made room for some of the young players that made the team. They put both Dmitrij Jaskin and Chris Thorburn on waivers to clear cap space and make room on the NHL roster.
Thomas spent most of training camp playing with some of the younger players on the roster. Unlike Jordan Kyrou or Samuel Blais, Thomas will probably play on the fourth line for the Blues to start the season.
We saw him briefly play with Vladimir Tarasenko and Ryan O’Reilly but we won’t see him with big names to start the year.
Thomas should have some help on the wings on the fourth line. Either Blais or Kyrou will be on the right side of Thomas with Ivan Barbashev on his left.
Thomas making the roster is not that much of a surprise, he was given every opportunity to make the team when camp started and only missed one preseason game.
The expectation for Thomas may need to be dialed down just a little bit, he has never played in an NHL regular season game but he has shown potential in juniors to be a quality NHL center for years to come.
