The St. Louis Blues are off to a horrific start to begin the season and if they don’t start winning soon, their season might be over before it even really started.

The St. Louis Blues are 2-4-3 to begin the season and are in last place in the Central Division. Only the Arizona Coyotes have fewer points than the St. Louis Blues to start the season.

After so much speculation that the Blues were going to make a deep playoff run after adding so many key pieces to the roster over the offseason, even a playoff appearance does not even seem possible right now.

There are so many question marks for the Blues this season so far. Goaltending, defense, coaching, just to name a few. However, the one constant to being the season is the lack of wins.

This (obviously) presents a huge problem for the Blues because they are playing in the toughest division in the NHL.

It’s hard to see a scenario where Nashville, Winnipeg, and Colorado losing enough games to let the Blues back into the division race. This means the Blues need to make up this deficit by beating the best the Central has to offer.

The Blues have already dropped four games to the Blackhawks and Jets going 0-1-3 in those games.

Many Blues fans will take comfort in the three points earned in the overtime losses against Chicago and Winnipeg. However, the only game worth celebrating getting one point over is the October 13 game at Chicago.

Jake Allen made a career-high 49 saves against the Hawks and kept the Blues in that game all night long while the defense was struggling inside of the Blues own zone.

The other three games, the Blues held leads in the third period, sometimes multiple times in the third. It has been a big problem for the Blues this season, but this flaw is magnified during division games.

Until the Blues find a way to start winning games consistently, these games against teams in the Central are paramount to getting back in the race. St. Louis is yet to match up against four other teams in the division so we will have to wait and see how the Blues fare against some of the best the Central has to offer.

This season has not gone the way the Blues envisioned after winning the offseason and changes may be coming sooner rather than later if this trend continues.

Next. St. Louis Blues Must Decide How They Want To Play. dark

Being the voice of reason for just a minute, there is still plenty of time to turn this season around. However, it is not just the fact that the Blues are losing, but it is how they are losing games.

Playing slow and methodical, blowing late leads, and questionable lineup changes can all disappear if the Blues get their act together and start winning games.

The clock is ticking, and even though it is only October, time is running out for the Blues playoff chances.
