The St. Louis Blues continued their upward rise with a solid game against the Vegas Golden Knights. There is still this nagging feeling that things are not that solved however.
The St. Louis Blues came out of their weekend game against the Chicago Blackhawks knowing they needed to build on that large, impressive victory. They did just that with a victory against the Vegas Golden Knights.
However, it’s not all smiles and rainbows. Despite a 5-3 win over a gritty team, there is still this nagging feeling that the Blues problems are persistent.
They continue to have defensive breakdowns. They continue to allow far too many short handed opportunities against and their power play seems either dominant or disgustingly inept.
On the bright side, the Blues seem to be finding ways to overcome all that. Against Chicago, they managed to keep plugging away when their goaltender got hurt when they would have had a built in excuse if they lost. Against Vegas, they managed not to squander one of Jake Allen’s better performances by continuing to push for more goals while not being completely devoid of any defensive responsibility.
The best thing that the Blues continued to show is what we were hoping for right from the get go. The Blues have four legitimate lines now. That is not to say we should expect two goals every few games from that line, but just the idea that you can count on them to produce some is good enough.
Overall, it was a solid win. Now, let’s break down the good and the bad.
