The St. Louis Blues have two games remaining before their Christmas break. They will be in Vancouver tonight and Calgary on Saturday with a chance to get back into the race.

The St. Louis Blues are nine points back of the Edmonton Oilers for the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference with three games in hand. The question needs to be asked, however, if the Blues win their next two games, will it be enough for St. Louis to keep their players and make a run.

If the Blues were to win their next two games, they would have won three in a row for the first time this season, they will have won six of their last seven games, and have recorded at least a point in seven of nine games.

Vancouver Canucks (6th Place in Pacific)

Record: 16-17-4

Last 10: 5-4-1

Season Series: VAN Leads 1-0

Point Leaders: Elias Pettersson (35), Bo Horvat (32)

The previous meeting between the two teams did not end well for the Blues. Vancouver walked into the Enterprise Center and slaughtered the Blues 6-1 after a statement win on the road against the Winnipeg Jets.

Vancouver is coming off an emotional game at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning. There were a combined 58 penalty minutes and ended in a 5-2 win for Tampa.

The Blues seemingly win the big games against big teams. St. Louis has wins against Winnipeg, Toronto, Colorado (twice), San Jose, and Nashville, but they struggle against mediocre teams.

Still unable to win more than two games in a row, the Blues are having issues with being consistent but have been playing much better lately.

I may be reaching for the stars at this point in the season, but I am a firm believer that there is still time left in the season to turn the ship around.

Nine points is not a terrible deficit to overcome, we are still waiting for the Blues to string together wins consecutively, and if they can do so, this team could quickly get back into the race.

St. Louis has the talent to turn the season around, if they can stop laying eggs after big wins, then they just might be able to be a decent team. Unfortunately, after the break, the Blues will be playing a lot of Eastern Conference teams. This means the Blues won’t be able to take away any points from the other teams in the West.

St. Louis is 14 points back of the Colorado Avalanche for third place in the Central, and it seems unlikely the Blues could climb all the way back to get a top three spot. The nine points between St. Louis and Edmonton is a lot more reasonable and is something that I believe the Blues can do.
