It almost goes without saying that the St. Louis Blues are an inconsistent team. From playing a solid overall game in two straight to laying an egg in the next. Is this the St. Louis Blues we are going to see for the remainder of the season?

The St. Louis Blues have had a rough start to the season. The Blues sit over the halfway mark of the season and not much has changed since the beginning. Inconsistency is a word that has been thrown around this franchise a TON this season.

Around .500 play, trade talks looming and I would have to believe, a fed up management team. This is the St. Louis Blues’ 2018-2019 season ladies and gentlemen.

I have personally always positioned myself on the optimistic side of things when it comes to this team. This past off-season brought us Blues fans a lot to be optimistic about and brought a lot of buzz around the city.

Ryan O’Reilly being traded to the Blues, David Perron coming back for his third stint with the organization, Patrick Maroon coming to play for his home town team and Tyler Bozak filling out as the second or third line center.

This team has the potential to be very dangerous in the Western Conference and in spurts, have shown they can play with the best.

Over the past few seasons, including this year, the Blues somehow manage to play better on the road and against top teams in the Eastern and Western conferences. Does it make sense? Absolutely not.

On this most recent four-game road trip, the Blues went 2-1-1 against some pretty tough teams in Dallas, Washington, New York, and Boston. Overall, this was a very successful road trip for the team and puts them right back in the playoff hunt.

It is incredible that with how inconsistent this team has played all year that as it sits right now, they are only four points out of a wild-card spot.

The Blues have so much potential on this roster, and there has also been many injuries plaguing St. Louis as well. The Robert Thomas injury especially stings, as I believe he was just coming into his own in the NHL.

It is also going to be interesting to see how the goalie situation will play out going into the second half of the season. Jake Allen, for the most part, has played his game and kept the Blues in a lot of games. Jordan Binnington has started four games this season and has shown in the minimal amount of minutes he’s played that he has a bright future ahead.

Regardless of how this team finishes out the season, It is going to be a wild ride to the finish. Who knows it could come down to the final game just like it did last season.
