According to Jim Thomas at the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the St. Louis Blues have announced that head coach Craig Berube will finish the season behind the bench.

The St. Louis Blues are sticking with what has worked (recently) and will allow Craig Berube to be the head coach of the Blues until the season ends. The Blues are 15-13-2 under Berube this season but have been playing much better hockey recently.

Berube has been a breath of fresh air after the Blues had moved on from former head coach Mike Yeo earlier this year. Although there was not much progress shown immediately under Berube, these things take time, and now his team is playing better.

When Yeo was fired, many Blues fans were calling for an outside hire. It seemed as though the passionate fans were tired of the coaching carousel that started when the Blues fired Ken Hitchcock in favor of Yeo just three years ago.

Joel Quenneville was the most popular candidate to take over the St. Louis Blues. Quenneville was let go by the Chicago Blackhawks weeks before the Blues fire Yeo.

With his familiarity with the organization, the future hall of fame coach was at the top of many fan’s lists.

Quenneville is still an option, but it just will not be this season. As other coaches around the NHL got fired, Quenneville’s name popped up almost instantly as a possible replacement for that team.

According to Thomas, Armstrong did not dismiss the possibility of going outside the organization to find their next head coach, only that they were sticking with Berube for the remainder of the season.

The Blues have seemingly turned their season around in the right direction, and we are seeing some flashes of what everyone thought this team could be at the start of the season.

One thing is clear, the organization still believes in Berube’s ability to keep righting the ship in St. Louis and maybe having ownership’s backing, Berube can finally settle in and start winning more and more hockey games.
