Great goaltending, great defense, great offense, and a splash of razzle-dazzle has propelled this St. Louis Blues team to their biggest winning streak since the 2015-16 season.

The St. Louis Blues have been surging up the Western Conference standings since just before the all-star break, and after beating some of the best teams in the league on their way to seven-straight wins, the Blues look unstoppable.

On January 3, the St. Louis Blues were dead last not only in the Western Conference but the entire NHL. Since the January 8 game against the Dallas Stars, the Blues are an astonishing 11-4.

One of the biggest contributors to this improbable turnaround is the increased security in net. Jordan Binnington has come in and grabbed the number one goalie spot by the horns and has not let go.

Binnington got his first career start on January 7 after appearing in two games in relief of Jake Allen. Since that time the Blues are, as a team, 11-3.

Binnington overall this season is 10-1-1, and the former third-round pick has garnered multiple player of the week honors in the NHL.

There is no controversy in net for St. Louis anymore. Binnington has cemented himself as the number one goalie, and he has been one of the key reasons why the Blues have been a more consistent and confident team.

Binnington and Allen are not doing this alone, the defense in front of them has been phenomenal. Led by the resurgence of captain Alex Pietrangelo, the Blues defensive unit is showing all of us what they are capable of.

Colton Parayko and Vince Dunn are also having career seasons and are excelling not only on the defensive end of the ice but offensively as well. Parayko has been known as a solid defensive player, but he has taken his offensive output to another level.

The opposite can be said for Dunn. After a great offensive year last season, Dunn is starting to find his groove as one of the best young defensemen of the league.

Ryan O’Reilly has been one of the best players in the entire league all season long, and his teammates are finally playing up to his skill level recently.

Most notably, Vladimir Tarasenko has been the superstar that St. Louis was waiting for since the puck dropped in October. He is currently on a nine-point streak and leads the team in goals with 22.

The line combination of O’Reilly, Tarasenko, and Brayden Schenn has been the Blues best line combination this season. O’Reilly has been shuffled around with just about every top-6 forward the Blues have but seems to have finally found a fit with Schenn and Tarasenko.

David Perron was also a key contributor to the Blues turnaround before sustaining an injury on January 19. He was, at one point, tied with O’Reilly for most points on the team and had a 13-game point streak before sustaining his upper-body injury.

All of these factors have been key contributors to the Blues turnaround. St. Louis currently occupies the first wild-card spot and sit just two points behind the Dallas Stars for third place in the Central Division.
